The Lumiplan Group

Vision and strategy

Since our inception, we have been developing our skills and expertise in dynamic communication, with a view to offering ever more effective and innovative solutions. As a long-standing partner to our clients, we share their strategic challenges in developing and disseminating local information in real time. Whether aimed at residents, travellers or visitors, this information helps to enhance the region’s appeal in the eyes of users, foster community relations, facilitate mobility and promote local tourism.

We operate in three main sectors: public communication, mobility, and information at tourist sites and in mountain areas. These three activities share a common feature: useful real-time information, displayed on physical and digital screens, which can be managed via our LumiPlay™ platform.

A three-stage development

For 50 years, we have been supporting society through its changes.

The Group’s history began in 1972 with the launch of an idea: the creation of a light display to provide information to tourists. Starting with seaside resorts on the Atlantic coast and then moving on to ski resorts, Lumiplan began to expand.

1972-2007 : Lumiplan is expanding and entering new markets.

  • In 1982, the ‘Ski’ range was extended to include electronic municipal information displays.
  • In 1992, Lumiplan launched its Transport division and contributed to the European Union’s discussions on information systems for public transport.
  • In 1997, Lumiplan deployed the first network of solar-powered, self-contained passenger information kiosks in an urban environment (Lyon).
  • In 2002, Lumiplan integrated ‘Full Colour’ display solutions into its applications, thereby becoming the first company to deploy outdoor colour screens in France, particularly in sports stadiums.

2007-2010 : Lumiplan is expanding its business through external growth.

  • In 2007, Lumiplan expanded its transport portfolio with the acquisition of Heurès, a provider of graphic design and livery solutions for bus routes.
  • In 2008, another acquisition: Lumiplan cemented its presence in the urban sector with the takeover of FA Technology, a major player in the urban digital signage market.
  • 2009 marked a new turning point: the company realised its international ambitions and established the subsidiary Lumiplan Asia in Singapore. It also continued its expansion in the public transport market through the acquisition of Duhamel, a pioneer in on-board communication solutions. At the same time, Lumiplan took its first steps into smartphone applications, launching the first mobile apps for ski resorts in France.

2010 to the present: Lumiplan has consolidated its operations and continued its international expansion.

  • In 2010, the company expanded internationally once again with the establishment of Lumiplan India in Bangalore, a subsidiary dedicated to transport-related activities.
  • In 2014, smartphone apps experienced a new surge in popularity with the launch of citizen apps.
  • In 2015, the Mountain division stepped up its expansion in the United States with the establishment of Lumiplan North America.
  • In 2017, Lumiplan continued its growth with the acquisition of Ameli in Italy, a specialist in on-board passenger information for public transport, and Soridis, an expert in passenger information at SNCF stations.
  • In 2019, Lumiplan acquired the Spanish company BQB, a specialist in passenger information solutions for public transport in Spain.
  • In 2022, Lumiplan strengthened its expertise in mobility data with the acquisition of Okina.
  • In 2023, Lumiplan restructured its capital to accelerate its growth with the arrival of InnovaFonds, supported by Bpifrance.

Today, Lumiplan employs 270 people and has a turnover of €65 million.
